The dark side of the american dream: aspiraions, values, and well being. Another consequence if you teach kids to care about rewards praise and compeiion is that you might inluence the way their values develop. The big things they look for in their lives. Kasser thinks that if you always emphasize rewards to kids, you may expect that when they become young adults is that what they will care most about is wealth. If you focus extensively on praise you may see a child who cares about image and appearance. If you have been using compeiion to get kids to work hard, this may transform into caring about popularity, status and rank. He would suggest there might be a direct relaion between how we socialize our children and how they think about what they want in their life.
