Battle of the trench in 627 ce near medina. It is so-named because the prophet ordered his people to dig a trench so they could fight from this trench. People of the book refers to religious groups who also have received a revelation from god. This includes christians who have the scripture, and jews who have the. Caliph one who follows in muhammad"s footsteps and becomes the vice-ruler of the prophet. The caliph leads the muslim community on the prophet"s behalf and has the consent of the entire community. In the muslim context it means the whole community of the believers (of muslims).
