Key points on race as a concept: genetics does not support the classification of humans into discrete races human variation is shared. Biomedicine: how to talk about disease risk and occurrence, how to disentangle race , taylor different medical strategies to different people (difficult to separate into meaningful). Problematic terms: language used, racial vs ethnic group, no biological basis, real life consequences, certain groups are singled out because of their risk factors. Bidil race in a bottle : controversial. Race-specific susceptibility more prone to some disease, but have to look at factors (poverty, life style) market people to specific groups can be problematic: but, underlying lifestyle factors, access to healthcare. Forensic anthropology and race: central to forensic anthropology create biological profile to narrow down individuals who may be missing and has success.
