Bands: create a bias against violence as a means of establishing order (pg. 129: emphasis upon sharing and cooperation, everyone has a legitimate claim to what the group possesses ex. They put him down because they didn"t like his gloating. Yanomami: live in amazon rainforest (brazil, exist on agriculture, they have norms and some laws. Social control in states: increased specialization of roles involved in social control, formal rails and courts, lawyers, judges, police, military, power enforced forms of punishment, such as prisons and the death penalty ex. This is where the western view of witches comes from!
