This is respected and operating as art, even though it is different than the mona lisa. Looking through history we can see the definition of art changing. Art is about redefining art from the past. The maker creates something to the viewer/perceiver also engages in certain thinking, feeling, etc. It is the act of transmission by an artist to a viewer. You cannot prove that everyone will react the same to a piece of art. Intention of an artist is often very problematic. Trained and untrained artists, sabatino simon rodia (metal towers in la) There are institutional structures that keep changing what art is in our society. A formally trained artist is also defined by these structures. The towers is an example, it is recognized as the most striking la landmarks and it came from a man who was untrained in art. It is a work that emerged into a institutional structure even though it was not born from it.
