Lower palaeolithic (2. 5 mya - 300,000 bce) Making a copy of something, holding a mirror to something. We can make a copy of something in our mind (like plato"s forms). One concept: memory is like storage on a computer database. Look at the world, store what you see in the mind. Sensory reactions, all react to the same event. Animals don"t come up with plans - they rely only on instinctual reactions that have served them in the past. Australopithecus begins to develop voluntary recall, begins to make plans. Can rehearse, gets better at hunting techniques and running away by practicing, etc.
