BIOLOGY 2B03 Lecture Notes - Lecture 8: Endothelium, Cytokine Receptor, Selectin
Document Summary
Module 8 lecture 2: cell adhesion: neutrophil extravasation: ex. connections that allow cells to migrate across cell surface and during embryogenesis. Capture: signal from site of infection triggers capture of neutrophil, mediated through cytokines released at infection sites, cytokines change behaviour of endothelial cells making up blood vessel wall, ex. Rolling: movement of neutrophils as they"re pushed over surface of endothelial cells while establishing/losing connections is called rolling. Icams, and slows movement even more: activation of intern allows interaction with ligand, Activations of integrins: association between interns and ligands stronger than selectin interactions, this further slows movement and establishes firm adhesion, intern activation = more changes in neutrophil behaviour including reorganization of actin cytoskeleton and cell migration. Transmigration: neutrophil stopped at site of infection, migrates by crawling between endothelial cells, connections between endothelial cells broken by enzymes produced by transmigration neutrophil.
