Many ancient models for feeding regulation - more or less the same in the mouse and human; same factors that cause obesity in humans can also cause obesity in mice. Anorexia: cannot intake food normally, will kill them. Adipose tissue secretes leptin which tells the body how much fat is present ko, doesn"t think the body has fat so continuously eats to obesity. Diet has regulatory checkpoints hard to change once established. Feeding mice diet supplements (known dose and know if the mouse ate it) Two sides to feeding regulation (orexigenic - orexins are also feeding regulators if you are orexigenic, high food intake) and (anorexigenic- inhibitory) 3 major theories of feeding regulation and all are right. Glucostatic- how glucose regulates intake, well studied. Lipstatic- how fat and lipids are regulated, really well understood. Amino acid/protein regulation - critical for growth; not well studied.
