The wave is composed of an electrical component in one direction and a magnetic component perpendicular to it disturbance that transmits energy. Wavelength = = distance between two crests. Frequency = = number of crests that pass given point/ unit of time. In phase: when the crests and the troughs of two waves are in sync produce higher crests and deeper troughs. Out of phase- when the crests meet the troughs of another wave. Destructive interference- the cancellation of the waves. Atomic/line spectra- discontinuous spectra; limited number of discrete wavelength components. Visible spectrum- continuous spectrum; light diffracted consists of many wavelength components. Electrons have properties of both a particle and a wave. Found in orbitals: regions in space where electrons are most likely to be found. 1900 max plank proposed that, just like matter, energy is also discontinuous (quantized) 2 metal plates separated by a wire with vacuum between them (incomplete circuit)
