Media is a huge industry. it is integral to our lives and it creates our identities around media. Media is something to bond over and something to buy. it tells larger stories about people and their values. Critical approach does not mean complaining or trashing a form of media. Lasswell assumes no interaction, assumes no miscommunication and has no understanding of larger social contexts of communication. Shannon and weavers mathematical model of communication: encoder (source) formulates the words (message) which goes through a channel (medium). Sender > message encoder > channel > message decoder > receiver. Encoding context > encoded content > medium > decoding context > decoded.
