Ellisdon project management: so large that it can be seen from space. Mobilization of large force of subcontractors workers, construction professionals, and engineers. Projects (take months or years to complete): developed outside the normal operations planning. Project management team within the firm may be set up to handle bigger jobs and are often disbanded when the project is complete. Sometimes projects are just part of their jobs: project planning: goal setting, defining the project, team organization. (objectives, resources, work breakdown structure, organization) project can be defined as a series of a related tasks directed toward major output. Steps: (1) establishing objectives, (2) defining project, (3) creating breakdown structure, (4) determining resources, (5) forming organizations. Headed by project manager (coordinate activities, monitors schedule and costs). Works best when: work can be defined with a specific goal and deadline. The work contains complex interrelated tasks requiring specialized skills. The project is temporary bur critical t the organization.
