Delays & bottlenecks: we can now identify which activities are critical to the timely completion of the project. In other words: if those activities are delayed, then the final project completion time is delayed as well. To this end, we calculate the idle time (or slack) of each activity, and then use them to compute the critical path. Slack is the length of time an activity can be delayed without delaying the entire project. It comes immediately from output of the 2 passes! Slack = latest start time earliest start time or. Slack = latest finish time earliest finish time. Observations: sum of durations on the critical path = project completion time.
