Input Devices Buzz words • Toggle – jumps back and forth between two states • Buffer – temporary storage area • Drag and drop • Hot keys – keyboard shortcuts • CCD – charged coupling device • CMOS – complementary mental oxide semiconductor Input devices • In order to process data, the computer needs some way to get the data • Some examples to get the data o Keyboard o Pointing device o Scanner Keyboard • Primary input device for entering text and numbers, there are different keyboard  layouts o E.g. QWERTY keyboard layout, DVORAK keyboard layout • Keyboards have the following grouping of keys o Alphanumeric o Numeric keypad o Function  Defined by the program, normally executes an actions or task  Convention has F1 ­ help o Cursor movement  A CURSOR is usually a symbol that indicates where characters  will be inserted if typed in  They can change where the cursor can be placed o Special keys  Have a specialized function  E.g. caps lock, num lock, scroll lock • These keys can toggle o Modifier keys  Used with other key(s)  Temporarily alters the normal action of other keys • PC – alt, ctrl, shift • Mac – control, option, command • Print screen o Windows  Key captures a picture of your whole screen  It gets te
