Layer 4 the built land scape- there is artificial. Layer 2 palaeozoic rocks (what we will see in the field lab) Layer 1 some igneous, they have been heated up and put through a lot of pressure. 1:10,000 etc. you have something big enough to show up at those scales. Has to be distinct from above and lower layer. The name has to do with the type location. Has to be a typical formation all around. This is when you have the type location. Sometimes you split into members or lump them together in a group. The precambrian era is the area after 542 million years.
