The interaction of various environmental components and their feedback will also be studied. Weather is the atmospheric conditions at a particular instance in time in a region. Climate is typically the state of the atmosphere averaged over a specified period of time for a particular region, e. g. southern. Monthly mean temperature for july is 21. 7 oc. Local climate affects our day-to-day life e. g. clothing, recreational activities etc. Climate affects distribution of vegetation and soil in a region. Climate fluctuations can cause serious problems because food, water and energy supplies are optimized for current climate. Human activities can alter local climate and possibly global climate by changing land surface cover (e. g. deforestation, urbanization) and atmospheric composition (e. g. greenhouse gas emissions). Five great material realms comprise the total global environment (see image of earth): Biosphere: envelope of gases surrounding earth liquid water snow and ice minerals organic life forms.
