EARTHSC 2C03 Lecture Notes - Lecture 10: Relative Humidity, Wet-Bulb Temperature, Dew Point
Document Summary
****note that es and e* (and vs and v*) are equivalent representations of saturation vapour pressure and density, respectively. Turbulence is characterized by rapid chaotic fluctuations in wind speed. Vertical fluxes of sensible heat (energy) and latent heat (mass) are produced by turbulence when parcels of air moving upward have different properties than parcels of air moving downward. If the addition (subtraction) of energy to a body rises (decreases) its temperature then it is referred as sensible heat. Sensible heat flux, qh is expressed as w m-2. The heat energy required to change a substance from one state to another at the same temperature is called latent (hidden) heat. The change of liquid water to vapour requires heat energy which is stored in water vapour but does not raise its temperature. This locked up heat will be released when water vapour converts to a liquid again.
