Document Summary

Oor of the ood (what you walk on) for centuries, communities have been built on oodplains this is because the soil is really good. Oods/streams push sediment around, the little rocks/sand/etc freshens up the soil. Oodplains = good water source most accessible, this does not mean there is a lot (because globally, there isn"t) fresh and not salty (water) predicting oods. 1997/2007/2010 = big events big events change the slope historical data only used to make predictions = only probability possible to have 100 year ood. Ash oods vs regional oods = similar because river is ooding in both. Ash oods = small area a ected happens suddenly disproportionate # of deaths can be life threatening. Oods here occur but we have a lot of warning because they occur due to it raining a lot much larger area a ected. 1996 had a heavy rainfall (ground became saturated due to so much rain/water) high water point in 1997.
