Personal-> didn"t hit him in the same way by writing a non- fictional. He chose to make it a fake place because he didn"t want to be attacked or take on the load of retelling a political/ sociological/ historical accurate/ authentic story. He wanted to have fun and be explorative with it-> show off that he can write differently (with more zest) than the book of negroes. Artistic-> he created a novel that creates a made up world in a way to bring the author into the story. Ex) harry potter-> it is a meditation on the holocaust (genocide) The use of creating a fictional world can focus on the real world. We still learn something but we can also just dive into a free place: viola hill. The character was named after her because she is mouthy. Global level-> it doesn"t matter whether the story is exactly with the life of the author.
