Document Summary
This is based on the culture trying to figure itself out through trials and tribulations in a form of telling and retelling. The campfire/ story represents the placement and unification of oneself in the culture meaning we need the story"s authority to place us in the culture. Big stories, already existing stories that bespeak the culture one lives in. Fairy tale as the earliest roots of children"s literature. We can track the history of children"s literature through the fairy tale. Oral tradition-> people sitting around a campfire and the story is the campfire. Folklore-> little stories that are about aspects of human behaviour that are on the radar of culture in their cosmology. Story telling as a teaching tool, to orient the reader/ listener to a favoured ethic(s) of their culture-> they tell us how to fit into the cosmology and match with it. How they look in the fairy tale: (cid:498)le conte de f es(cid:499) and (cid:498)le conte merveilleux(cid:499)
