Dislikes the idea that there is a god that is not necessarily in the christian model but still exists. People liked the monarch b/c they needed the strict central order. He opposes a generalized conception of god. He is on the side of a christian god but he does not like the narrowness of the doctrine of the christian god. For dryden the watered down version of god causes for the central order to weaken. When meeting people with different spiritual values, once they hear about christianity and they do(cid:374)"t (cid:272)o(cid:374)(cid:448)ert the(cid:455)"ll go to hell so there (cid:449)as a(cid:374) i(cid:373)perati(cid:448)e to (cid:272)o(cid:374)(cid:448)ert people. If the people are converted, then they will be under the power of the central order.
