Its increasingly more expensive to deal with solid waste that is environmentally sound. Because of the huge amount of solid waste produced. Still ends up in the solid waste stream. Batteries, pesticide containers (there are other ways to dispose of this waste) Plastic bags increase the lifespan of the waste inside the bags. 1kg per person, then 2kg by 2001. Increase meant 84 thousands garbage trucks were on the road cleaning up the trash: solid waste: the hamilton situation. Up to early 2000"s, mostly combustion system. Abandoned due to emission guidelines effective in 2006. Solid waste reduction unit was the largest producer of dioxin in canada. Glanbrook landfill site was to be filled within 15 years. Projected population growth in the greater city of hamilton to a max of 700,000 by the year 2031. Current project to reduce solid waste: increase in compost, increase in recycling, decrease in the amount of solid waste produced.
