If distance is short between two locations, then communication and movement is high, however if they aren"t close then the level of interaction will be very low: distance decay: interaction between locations diminishes in intensity as distance increases. As distance increases the interaction between locations declines. If you have relatives far away and ex-neighbours far away you maintain contact with your relatives as you have relationship and connection to them. Level of interaction depends on distance + connection to you. You will have connection to your relatives no matter how far they are. Neighbours lose contact once they move a certain distance from you: distance decay: the decline of an activity or function with increasing distance. The farther you are from something, the less likely you are to attend that place.
