Document Summary

Envsocty: lecture #2 key concept in human geography (1) Concepts: space, location, place, distance, distribution, density, concentration/ dispersion, pattern, summary / conclusion. Sometimes distort space: stretching and shrinking parts on the world map. Making the point: space: relative space: locations identified by their relative positioning & importance, e. g. a topological map. In topological maps, scale, distance & positioning are guesstimates: clarity , relative spacing vs. objective accuracy. For example: the go train maps: the accuracy of the map is not relative to the actually positioning and location of the stops. Instead the makers of this map use clear illustrations and labelling to help people have a better understanding of where they need to go, the order of stops, which train trains they need to get on, etc. Where is my connection: not looking for 100% accurate, just needs to be relative.
