It is dominated by generally long and cold winters: near the summits, lichens are found whereas in valleys pine trees dominate, forestry dominates, particularly in the northern interior, other activities include mining, oil and gas, tourism, agriculture. Boreal plains: the boreal plains ecozone extends from the southern part of the yukon down into southeastern manitoba.
