There is a perception of almost limitless resources in this region. there are also many environmental challenges with the clear-cutting of forests including erosion, stream sedimentation, damage to salmon and spawning grounds. One interesting aspect of the province of british columbia is that it functions as its own little. Heartland/hinterland microcosm, with vancouver and victoria as its heartland, and the rest of the province as the hinterland.
