Called the cretan civilization that built these the minoans : other palaces were later found on the same island, named after minos a mythical cretan king, believed the minoan"s colonized areas of greece. Represents the earliest state-level society: first palace circa 2000 bce. Archaeologists reconstruct parts of the original building. Built by a developed, complex society: controlled by a government and ruling class. Palace"s wealth is determined by: scale, material, quality of construction, extra rooms. Used as ceremonial and religious centers: central role in religious ritual. Palace suggests king and royal family: no evidence found, no specific form of government found.
