For the development of social programs and interventions. Two levels of theory: gerontologists often classify theories into 2 categories: micro level and macro level, micro-level theories. Three theoretical perspectives: both micro/macro level theories can take one of three perspectives: (1) the interpretive perspective, (2) the functionalist perspective, or (3) the conflict perspective. Chapter two notes: focuses almost exclusively on the micro level of social life; it looks at how, weakness: people define situations, how they create social order, and how they relate to one another in daily life life. It tends to ignore the connections that exist b/w micro-level social interactions and the larger social forces or structures in society. it gives only the subjective or individual point of view on social. Strengths of age stratification: has helped to separate age differences from age changes over the life course, highlights the impact of historical and social changes on individuals and cohorts, shows the relationship between aging and social structures.
