17 views6 pages

Document Summary

In previous addition ptsd & ocd was part of anxiety disorder. In dsm 5 - we took disorders out of anxiety and created new specific chapters. Forces us to ask questions about how and why we separate one disorder from another. Tend to use same treatment for a bunch of disorders. Cause - we do not agree on causes. From edition to edition, how we conceptualize these disorders change. "shell shock" - ww1 - used to describe solders who been away and when they came back they had psychological problems (terrified easily, strange poses,) Near shells and they exploded and impacted brain. Ww2 - new term = combat fatigue (similar to people who got shell shocked) Some people who had combat fatigue looked different from those who had shell shock. People came from vietnam and were angry - new term again - ptsd. Shell shock and combat fatigue did not experience flashbacks.
