Discusses prevalence of disorders in general population. Has grown in size since first edition, since last 65 years there is 4x the number of. Lack of hard science, disorders are formed on a committing basis. People gather and discuss what the symptoms should and shouldn"t be and which disorders should be there. Doesn"t do enough to person place in life into consideration. A person may be suitable for depression but their context (or critics) may state that they"re just upset due to work. Critics state that the dsm is based on science but some disorders are only counted based on whether they can be treated or not. Ptsd wasn"t able to be treated before so was not included until it was stated that it could be treated, so was available in dsm.
