13 views2 pages

Document Summary

Define what the indicators or attribute for the variable. Researchers start at ratio, redefine variables and make them nominal. The level of measurement is dependent on the variable. Nominal: what is the highest education you have received. You cannot go up the pyramid of measurement. Coding enables quant scholars to do statistical analysis. In nominal measurement there is no significance of the numbers assigned, eg. there is no rank in answers. Each attribute must be distinct from each other for nominal measurement. Exhaustive means every possible answer applicable is available to the respondent. There is no numerical rank between answers - differences are logical not exact. Intervals - there is a distance between attributes, unlike ordinals. There is no real zero as in there can"t be none of what is being measured. Ratio levels - there is a presence of a true zero point. Continuous variables - infinite number of distinct variations - interval and ratio.
