HTHSCI 1H06 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Sternal Angle, Papillary Muscle, Coronary Sinus
Document Summary
Describe the location and orientation of the heart. Describe the anatomy of the coronary circulation. Describe the structure of the pericardium and the heart wall. Describe the anatomy of the chambers and valves of the heart. This is an organ that is connected to an entire vasculature whose primary purpose is to supply blood & oxygen & nutrients to the body tissues and carbon dioxide thru waste from those tissues . Heart: location & orientation (middle region of chest). The heart is located within the pericardium, which is located within the mediastinum. Heart is surrounded by a fibrous sac called the pericardium. Top of the heart is the base. Pericardium is what protects the heart (when we are moving around, breathing) by fusing with the diaphragm. Inferior surface is what"s fused with the diaphragm (thru the pericardium) At the top of the heart we have the great vessels coming off.
