HTHSCI 1H06 Lecture Notes - Lecture 22: Nystagmus, Gracilis Muscle, Membranous Labyrinth
Document Summary
The ankle is a hinge joint, similar to the knee, that is built to have the ability to move and carry the weight of our body. The medial malleolus is a bone located at the medial surface of the ankle. malleolus as a pulley to arrange the long flexors of the foot. Explain the plantar flexors, inverters, and flexors of the toes. The most superficial group all insert into a calcaneal or achilles tendon, which attached to the calcaneus bone. The triceps group all work together to plantar flex the ankle through its insertion onto the calcaneus: underneath the triceps group, there is a deeper set of muscles that use the medial malleolus as a pulley. The muscles fans out to make multiple attachments to the tarsals and metatarsal bones. The digital flexors is located medially, emerges into the foot after the medial malleolus. The flexor digitorum longus inserts onto the ends of the phalanges to flex the toes.
