Document Summary

Muscles arise from leg and have an action on ankle joint. Deep muscles use medial malleolus tendon of ankle to get into foot. Flexor retinaculum extending around tarsal bone to redirect deep tendons. Goes around medial malleolus arising from interosseous membrane between tibia and fibula and inserts onto tarsal bones inverts foot, turns sole inwards kind of like supination. Structures that go underneath calcaneus tendon and around follow medial malleolus follow mnemonic. Tibialis posterior, flexor digitorum, tibial artery, tibial nerve, flexor hallacous longus. Arise from anterior shaft of tibia and fibula and interosseous membrane. Help plantar flex foot because they are wrapped around posterior aspect of lateral malleolus. Comes from sciatic nerve wrapping around neck of fibula. Popliteal artery enters posterior compartment where posterior tibial artery will supply all posterior flexors of calf. Anterior tibial artery goes through a hole in interosseous membrane and then emerges from front of foot.
