Structure: number of cell layers: simple or strati ed, shape: squamous, cuboidal, columnar. Function: protection, absorption, secretion, reception of sensory stimuli. Most abundant tissue in body, well vascularized. Functions: tissue repair (these cells come in and build skin back up) , support, protection against infection (wbc are connective tissue), insulation (adipose is connective tissue) Structure: cells surrounded by ecm (ground substance [ uid, semi uid, gelatinous, calci ed) and bres (collagen and elastin etc. )] Classes: connective tissue proper ( broblasts, adipocytes), cartilage (chondrocytes), bone (osteocytes), blood (rbc) Structure: skin and accessory organs, two layers: epidermis (outer) and dermis (inner) *epithelial tissue, cutaneous membrane sits on hypodermic or subcutaneous layer, made of adipocytes. Conditions: blue=cyanotic (hypoxemia, yellow=jaundiced (liver disfunction- bilirubin, red=erythema (heat, infection, in ammation, allergic reaction, white=pallor (shock, anemia, vasoconstriction) Dermis carries 8-10% of total blood volume. Chemical: sebum containing defensives and low ph sweat helps slow growth of microbes, melanin protects stem cells from uv.
