Gi part 2 (basic plan, peritoneum & stomach: gastroespohegeal reflex disease (gerd, lower esophageal sphincter often low pressure, gastric pouch intra thoracic reservoir. Hiatal hernia allowing hcl into esophagus which has no protection from hcl: diagraphram doesn"t allow for esophageal pinch, heart burn may be confused for cardiac disease, causes are numerous but worsened by : Smaller meals- less acidic meals / less pressure. Maintaining an upright position ( gravity to advantage to allow food to go through) Antiacids ( sodium bi-carb buffer / proton pump: the basic plan, in all gi systems very similar with only a few alterations, mucosa. Conists of : epithelium , lamina propria , & muscularis mucosa. Job: to glue epithelium down (lamina) , lubrication, aid in coating so stomach doesn"t digest itself: submucosa, muscularis. Job : is to contract and push food through gi track. Job : act like saran wrap/ coating and providing lubrication: enteric ns (controlling/coordinating peristalsis, helps to coordinate peristalsis.
