Small intestine - the brush border absorption central (villi + microvilli) Where do the nutrients go: into the blood and nymph, nutrients are then processed and/or burnt for energy. The large intestine: made up of the cecum, colon, rectum, anus, continued absorption, contains friendly bacteria. They digest what you can"t fiber: rectum holds feces until it"s eliminated. They produce fats that the large intestine uses. Heart burn: aka gastro esophageal reflex disease (gerd, gastric juices from the stomach in the esophagus, lower esophageal sphincter may be damaged, or just not working hard enough. Why does it burn: hcl eats away at the cells of the esophagus. Causes: genetics (dysfunctional sphincter, physical damage (dysfunctional sphincter, pregnancy (extra pressure, hiatal hernia (extra pressure, overweight/obesity (extra pressure) Hiatal hernia: when upper part of stomach becomes weakened and begins to bulge. Dietary/lifestyle contributions: chemically affect muscle tone of the digestive tract/lower esophageal sphincter. Lactose intolerance: allergy = foods that cause an allergic reaction.
