Maintains sleep-wake cycle, emotional tone and sensory perceptions (e. g. pain) Decreased serotonergic activity associated with depression and anxiety. Inability to derive pleasure or experience interest in most activities. Lack of interest in appearance, sex, leisure activities. Presents 2 weeks to 6 months after childbirth. Characterized by alternating periods of depression and mania.
