Proposes the inherent existence of stable and unstable movement patterns. Control emerges as a result of interactions between the component parts of the body and the environment. When the system is forced to move from stable to unstable patterns (movement states), this increased instability will result in increased movement variability. An intrinsic property of the system is that it will always seek its greatest level of stability (ie. seek to re-stabilize) Attractor state : a stable state that tends to draw other states toward it. Relies heavily on the concept that changes in motor performance are non-linear. Hick"s law (rt and number of choices) Fitt"s law (accuracy increases as movement time decreases) Butterfly effect : if a butterfly flaps its wings in australia, it might cause an avalanche in antarctica.
