Document Summary
Some of the different types of measurements we take in gmd are: height, length, weight. Let"s take a look at the relationship between the measurements. Traditionally, we look at ratios weight in kg/height in m: bmi kg/m^2, ponderal index kg/m^3, normal values for infants is twice as high as adults. It is a measure of leanness of a person. It has the same units as density (kg/m^3) Due to their short legs (short height) weight/height: examples, there are also many other ratios that is not based on, sitting height/stature, shoulder/hip. We look at these more in-depth on next page. It is the most common measurement in our course. This ratio has different implications depending on the age group: pre-adolescence (children) indication of nutritional status, adolescence indication of growth spurt, adulthood indication of overall health. The differences b/w boys & girls is all based on timing.
