The baby has hydrocephalus, a condition in which the cerebral aqueduct gets blocked, causing the csf in the lateral and third ventricle to accumulate & no exit to be made. This means the abnormal narrowing of a body channel (in this case the cerebral aqueduct) The baby"s head is so large because the skull"s bones haven"t fused together yet and there is room for expansion. This condition prevents the csf from going to: Put shunt in the brain that"ll move the csf from the ventricles to other parts of the body. Abdomen (in the peritoneal cavity), heart (in the right atria) 25% of babies have to keep the shunt for the rest of their lives. 75% of babies can have it removed as their aqueduct gets bigger. Would occur from head trauma, much more dangerous bc skull cant expand, therefore pressure on brain structures. Where the spinal cord and medulla oblongata come together, spinal nerve c1.
