Direcion: situaions that an athlete seeks out, approaches or atracted to (higher compeiion, situaions that an athlete avoids. Intensity: how much efort is invested, more moivaion = more efort. Persistence: maintaining intensity over a coninuous period, shown by people who in response to obstacles and what they"re trying to accomplish, more moivated= coninue to persist. Think of the reasons you: engages in sports as a kid, presently engage in sports/exercise, do not engage in sports/exercise, parents, get into shape, culture, meet people, looking up to someone. Paricipaion moivaion: why people become involved and stay involved in sport and exercise aciviies. Adults and children are moivated to paricipate in sport for similar reasons: competence, skill development, fun, challenge, itness. Only 7% of canadian youth (5-17) are acive enough for opimal growth and development.
