The education, health system and the biggest book seller and the construction industry is controlled by the church. One exception was the knights of labour -- (cid:271)ut it didn"t last. The church serves to make quebec a very conservative society. Clear role for the bishops and the priests in the union. These unions are church controlled and are way more conservative than unions. You can see this in the way they organized -- they not only organized workers, they organized the union and the employer -- under the influence of the church. They used their weight as church members to further support unions. When a lot of other unions were trying to start an organizing drives the churches would scoop out the drives and take the members. Didn"t (cid:449)ant to a(cid:272)tually fight for (cid:449)orker"s rights.
