Recession in 1973, and by 1975 it"s clear that the good times are coming to an end. Takes a lot of unions and people on the left a long time to recognize that the good times were coming to an end. Canada wasn"t hit as hard by the recession (neo-liberalism was a light experience in canada) In the 1970"s, there are two schools of thought: there was a massive economic crisis (marked by property crash, inflation, not as much purchasing) inflation is something keyns never saw happening when the economy was bad but it was. A crisis that defeats a lot of keynesian thinking no explanation from keyns as to why this is happening: crisis in the 1970"s, but its not as severe as everyone says. Creates a political opportunity for neoliberals, see it as an opportunity to implement a bunch of their policies. Business became much more political in the 1970"s.
