MMEDIA 1A03 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Monetary Base, Typography, Typesetting
Document Summary
The art and technique of arranging type in order to make language visible. Font character set of a single size and style of a typeface. Note: font is often used to mean the same thing as typeface, even though technically a typeface is made up of several sizes. Font family character set of all sizes of a particular typeface (but not all styles) Typeface set of characters that share common design features. Note: each style of font is a particular typeface, so arial narrow is a different typeface than arial. There are always exceptions, always excuses for stunts and surprises. But perhaps we can agree that, as a rule, typography should perform these services for the reader: Reveal the tenor and meaning of the text. Clarify the structure and order of the text. Link the text with other existing elements. Induce a state of energetic response, which is the ideal condition for reading.
