Classic hollywood film score (1930s and 1940s): textbook page 125. We were on this slide at beginning of lecture. He talked about how robin hood has most of these qualities. Same tune used in different ways depending on situation. One called march of merry men and other one is little. Interesting progression that happens in the scene when we meet lil john. First music we hear is lil john theme. (we hear this theme as robin and john are having a friendly fight with quarter staff. Then as it becomes clear that lil john is a good guy, merry men theme is played. So theme symbolizes that a member is joining the group. ) Music is written to very closely match on screen action, dialogue, emotions that are being projected in the scene. In the scene, robin and will are talking about previous night. They mention hooting owls and you"ll hear in the music a little hooting sound.
