Lecture 5: using pre-composed music: mt & individuals with disabilities: parkinson"s. Pre-composed music is familiar and allows people to engage comfortably due to familiarity. Verbal direction to sing along is not always needed, some people usually catch on. They sing along because they want to, or feel the need to. You sing, helps for people with cognitive decline. Familiar/known, provokes good memories, safe environment: what is not familiar then not useful, not the same effect as familiarbut can be predictable (see below) Why is it a powerful tool: provided insight for the mt from the client. Entertainment: no, if used with health care goal intent, sung multiple times to help it stick, whereas an entertainer would just go through music for diversity for amusement. Music time line: memory associated with music, makes a time-line, conditioned memories to music, music helps formulate a timeline.
