Lecture 8 ahmad: terrorism is politically motivated. It is not simply a political act: motivated for a desire of political change. Weaker than those they oppose (why richardson argues that the state cannot be considered a terrorist) According to osama bin laden: there are good and bad terrorists, depends on the cause and who is being targeted. The term terror today often invokes ideas of radical islam: but: it has been used by all sorts of groups and religions. First uses of terrorism came out of the french revolution: first time this term was used. It was first used to describe state terror. Was used in revolutions but also anti-colonialism as well. 9/11 = largest act of international terrorism in regard to state-terrorism problem: we do not hear much about terrorism in the east: we are usually only concerned about it in the west. Major terrorist attacks are usually motivated by p0olitical issues.
