Single factor experiment: 1 iv (factor) with multiple levels. Looks at the effects of the color red effect on cognitive performance, and 2 approaches to learning called approach and avoid. Anagram task- unscramble letters to make words; 5 minute task after being randomly assigned to get a text booklet with an id code that was either red, black or green; iv- ink color 3 levels- red, green, black. Was able to make a casual statement because he maintained control. No sig difference in performance b/w black and green groups, significant decrease in performance in the red group; therefore the color red causes you to do worse on cognitive tasks than other colors. Replicated with different tasks; ran 5 or 6 different experiments with different ways of measuring cognitive performance (math, memory), and ways of manipulating the iv- different control colors, different ways of presenting the colors.
