H: we seem to be carrying on an approach to addiction that does not seem to be working: almost everything that we think about addiction is wrong. What we think we know about addiction: we think that because there are chemical hooks in drugs, your body would become dependent on them and you would start to physically need them and become addicts. In this cage, no overdoses and hardly any drug use. H: what we actually need to think: a core part of addiction is actually not being able to feel imprisoned in your life. Yes: people felt as if they rediscovered purpose and rediscovered bonds with society, drug use down by 50, overdoses, hiv, addiction all down. We need to be nicer to people who are addicted to drugs.
