Tying shoes may be child s play to you, but not to a child. Theory suggests that we categorize objects by comparing them to an internal representation of a category called a prototype. Prototype = average or best member of a category. Categorize new objects by comparing them to your prototypes. Further away an object is from your prototype, less likely it is to be categorized as a tree. Suggests that we store one internal average of a category that is then compared to a new experience to determine category membership. Suggests that instead of storing only one average category prototype, you store entire of experiences.
